Is being humanist an anti-religion?

Our religion has always been means for realizing the best values of life. It has been accomplished through the interpretation of the sense of values resulting goal (or ideal) and the techniques, set for the attainment of an ideal life. The changes in any of these make an impact on the image of religion.

The practice of humanism recognizes that our religion, culture and civilization, as clearly depicted by anthropology, are the product of a gradual development due to interaction with socio-economic system and natural environment.

Today, our system of complex socio-economic structure made up of scientific advancement, has created a situation which requires practical change in religion. The time is passed for 100% theism and the several varieties of "mythological thought" including the revision of traditional attitudes. In other words, technological and economic changes have totally disrupted our traditional beliefs. It is obvious that any religion that would not like to die in the age of digitalization must be re-shaped for the needs of their followers.

The fulfillment in life comes from individual participation in the service of humane ideals, no matter whatever religious affiliation you carry with yourself. We seek happiness, peace, understanding and spiritual beauty for the purpose of fullest possible development in our lives. We rely on the rich heritage of our culture and the spirits of humanism provide us comfort either in times of prosperity or scarcity.

We are social by nature and find meaning in relationships. The humanist thoughts take us into a world of mutual care, concern and cruelty-free lifestyle. The joining of individuality with inter-dependence enriches our lives, encourages us to enrich the lives of others as well, and inspires the hope of attaining opportunities for all.

It would be worth considering that we all need to affirm the dignity and individual rights of each person in line with the rights of others. In this way, we all can enjoy maximum possible freedom without hurting anyone.

We need to improve the socio-economic system, so that no one may be deprived of the basic necessities of life. To achieve this, we are bound to reject beliefs based solely on dogma, revelation, mysticism or supernatural elements. Being humanist, we affirm that individual and social problems can only be resolved by means of logical reasoning, intelligent effort, critical thinking filled with compassion and a spirit of empathy for all living beings.

In conclusion, we must remember that our life and the kind of world we want to live in, is our responsibility and ours only.  The business of giving divine guarantee to human values is only produced by politics.  Thus, in order to remain in the flow of our lives, we aspire to the vision that - humanity itself has the ability to gain a right foundation.
