Racial Casting in Bollywood

Indians have varying degrees of Caucasoid and Australoid ancestry, and actors in Bollywood tend to come from regions with more of the former. They also use skin bleaching, not just to look younger and more attractive for the screen, but as part of a growing trend in India to appear more Caucasoid.

The difference in phenotype between “enhanced” Bollywood stars and ordinary Indians is visible in facial composites.

In Hollywood films it seems they cast the opposite in that if an ethnic actor/actress is needed than the more exotic the features the better unless they are trying to make a Caucasian into an Asian (think David Carradine here). When they portray ourselves, it tend to look for perfect specimens; otherwise they use character and diversity as guide. Hollywood screens are filled with quite a mixed bag.
